Almond up and about, and even running!

It's been a long three and a bit weeks nursing poor Almond through her rickets episode, but I am pleased to report she seems a lot better if not totally back to normal.

I checked the alpacas today and she was sitting down when we got there, but she soon got up when Sorcha approached her and trotted over to the feeding area with three other crias who were sunbathing (it is cold but the sun WAS out!).

She has been needing daily milk from us but she's now back on her mum Choccie with great gusto so we are tailing off the milk. She was not keen on it at all today and went straight on to mum after taking a little. Her mum has also had a Vit ADE shot and lots of extra feed rations, so she is putting some weight on.

Almond is thin now but we hope she'll build up again over the next while with some TLC. She certainly seems bright-eyed and happy enough.

We've jabbed all the crias and are going to do the adults in the next few days, just to make sure everyone is fully topped up with Vit D.

The other pacas are fine. The two boys in residence just now, Mac and Ashby, were having a good old ruck this afternoon, screeching and chasing all around the field. Business as usual.

Glad to hear Almond is on the mend, it such a relief when they start running around again and refusing your bottle. We fed our little Rose about a month before she wouldn't take it anymore and she went from strength to strength. I am now paranoid and watch them all like hawks now.

But I am sure your little almond will only get better and better. Well done.

Great news that Almond seems to be recovering! We love these little creatures but they certainly cause us some grief as they keep us on our toes! Happy New Year to all at Coire especially little Almond!
