Goodbye Advie

I have not even got round to telling you about our last crias of the season and yet today we have lost one.

Advie was born to the fesity Iona and sire Groove 10 days ago, a beautiful big very light fawn girl. We also had Askival, a big white boy out of Kara, putting in an appearance three weeks ago.

Today, very sadly, we found Advie dead in one of the sheds, with mum Iona hovering heartbroken over her little body.

We are totally gutted. We have no idea what's happened. She appeared a little hunched yesterday but it was quite chilly and she was not acting oddly apart from that. So to find her dead today was a terrible shock

Unfortunately we've had a family emergency so we've not even been able to get her body off to be PMed in Inverness as we would normally.

I had not even uploaded a picture of her, and I feel awful about that. Even though she was around for only a few days, we loved her like all the other seven. I don't have my pictures with me today, but I will upload one of her as soon as I can, and some of Askival.

Every alpaca owner faces losses at one time or another and it is always very hard. It's at these times we feel that we are not cut out for owning and breeding livestock.

I just hope the wee girl is at peace now and pronking in the afterlife.

That's so sad Lucy and it's the worst part about breeding animals. Shows that you are a very good breeder when you care so much.

So sorry - losing any alpaca is horrible, losing a cria seems so tragically unfair.
