Sorry for the long absence, which has been caused by nothing much happening! It's nice to report that after our hectic couple of years.
The alpaca mums are all fine and around 5-6 are pregnant. Gerry reported that he saw some in utero crias moving about in the bulging bellies today. The births are expected in a group from the end of July onwards.
We had James Dixon, the Aussie shearer extraordinaire, scheduled to come three weeks ago but it turned out to be a wet period so he's now planning to come a week on Friday. Thankfully it's not been too hot and the girls have been fine and comfortable. That is one of the benefits of living in the north of Scotland!
We can't wait to see them all revealed again, particularly the crias, and most particularly Tannara, our lovely grey almost-yearling girl. Her fleece is medium or dark silver grey at root but has very bleached out cria tips, so she looks a bit light fawn at the moment. She will soon look very grey! I will post before and after shots at the time.
Tomorrow we are going to visit Cairndinnis Alpacas, who have moved from East Lothian (near Edinburgh) to Mosstowie, near Elgin, about 18 miles from us. They have invited us for lunch and to see their pacas, so we are very excited at that. We will try to take some photos and blog about it soon.
Two blog posts in a few days - can you cope?
